The Yankees are out of the playoffs courtesy of the Detroit Tigers. I know..unbelievable. Cory Lidle died crashing his plane into a NYC apartment building. A coach in PA was sent to jail for paying another kid on his team to purposefully hit an autistic kid on his team because he didn't want him to play.

The weather is cold here just in time for the last half of Taco's football season. They won their first game last Saturday. Beat the other team 28-0. The other coach started getting pissy when Taco's coach called a timeout on offense with 30 seconds left in the game. He yells, "Haven't you scored enough points, Coach??!?!". What a dipstick. Obviously his team could have used a little more gametime practice on defense. Oh well.

Not a whole lot going on for me to blog about.....Manders takes all the good stuff ;)

Taco's football is going good. They lost over the weekend, but they still have fun & get better every week.

Softball is going good for me. I hit another home run last night. Made up for the crappy throw I would make from 3rd to 1st later in the 2nd game. Two people on my team hurt themselves, not sure if they'll be able to make it back. We'll see.

That's about it for now. I'm about to move offices...AGAIN this week. Fun stuff.

Scariest feeling in the world

Friday night before the football game we were mulling around outside with Taco's team waiting to enter the stadium. I had just bought myself a ticket (Taco's was bought by his coach) and I had Tojo by my side.

After buying the ticket I walked back to where the team was assuming that Tojo was still in tow behind me.

We stood around for about 5 minutes & I looked down to ask Tojo if he was ready to go into the game. He wasn't there. I looked where the team was, he wasn't there. I looked all over the front of the stadium for his yellow polo shirt & couldn't find him.

That's when I started to panic. I asked Taco to help me find his brother. He asked the kids on his team if they saw him..."No". He started to cry & gripped my hand as hard as he could. I told him, "It's ok buddy, we're going to find him, don't worry.".

I wasn't in full panic mode yet because I hadn't even entered the stadium and thought that maybe he had walked in there instinctively after I bought the ticket.

So Taco & I went inside to look for him. Not a minute later I hear Taco yell out, "I FOUND HIM DAD!!! I FOUND HIM!!".

He was standing about 20 feet inside the gate against a brick wall right next to the pay phones with the saddest look on his face. Not crying, not walking around looking for me. Just standing there looking at the ground. It broke my heart. I ran over there & scooped him up, hugging him as hard as I could, apologizing over & over & over. "I'm sorry I lost you buddy. I'm so sorry, I'll never do it again.". I didn't let go of his hand for the rest of the night.

Football Friday Night

I'm taking the boys to the BA / Jenks game tonight. It's not usually my night with the boys, but since Taco's whole football team is going she didn't want him to feel left out so I'm taking him. I'm glad that she & I can get along so the boys can do stuff like this. Sure, I had plans but nothing's more important to me than spending time with my little boys when they're still little & think I'm cool. How much longer will that last?

Some of you know, some of you don't know that my cousin died selflessly trying to save lives in the World Trade Center.

I really don't know what to post here other than a bit of a memorial I found online. I love my whole family, my cousin Ronnie who lost her son. Everyone who feels sorrow over Michael's death.

‘A Tribute’

FDNY Fire-fighter Michael Edward Roberts wanted to be a Fire-fighter since he was a young boy. He practically grew up in the Firehouse in Brooklyn. He was driven to follow in his father’s footsteps. Michael’s dad, John, and his uncle Bob were both Fire-fighters before him. Michael was honoured to receive the badge that they passed on to him, #6611. He was energetic, inquisitive and determined to learn as much as he could about Fire-fighting. Michael’s younger sister Karen constantly asked him not to leave his current safe job with the Phone Company. He would of course tell her not to worry and that he would be safe. Michael received his graduation certificate from Mayor of New York on the 22nd of January 1998.

On the morning of the 11th of September 2001 FDNY Fire-fighter Michael Roberts and his colleagues: Kenneth Watson, John Florio , Lt. Chris Sullivan and Carl Bedigan responded to a 911 emergency call to the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in Manhattan. The dispatcher stated that a passenger airliner had crashed into one of the two towers. They were travelling to the scene of the disaster in Engine 214 and Ladder 111 fire appliances. No doubt they were sure in their minds that the incident that they were responding to was going to exhort all of the skills that they had learned in so many years of experience and training. The scene unfolding before their startled eyes would have left them in no doubt of the dangers and challenges that lay ahead. Upon arrival at the scene they would have donned their breathing sets and carried their rescue and fire-fighting equipment from the truck and entered the building intent on making their way up to the floors of the tower that were burning fiercely. Floor after floor they ascended taxing their combined strengths as they climbed higher and higher. On the stairwells they passed office workers calmly making their way out of the building.

On the nights of the 25th and 26th of October 2001 the family, relatives, colleagues and friends were gathered at The Marine Park Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY for Michael’s wake and Memorial Service (no funeral would be possible without a body). On the night of the 26th at about 9.30 p.m. just as the family were preparing to leave the Funeral Home, word came through from Ground Zero that a number of bodies had been found and one of them was Michael. On the morning of the 27th October a Funeral Service was held St. Thomas More Church close to Michael’s home at Breezy Point. The family were lucky to have the body of their son returned to them so that they could get some degree of closure. The bodies of Kenneth Watson, John Florio, and Carl Bedigan were located close to where Michael had been found, sadly no trace was ever found of Lt. Chris Sullivan.

After the death of Michael Roberts his FDNY Number #6611 was retired by the Fire Department. Michael was a Cadet with the Boston Cadets Baseball Team in Brooklyn. In 1982 Michael was a recipient of the coveted Bruce Windorf Award. His number in the Cadets #15 was not retired, instead his cousin and Godson, Joe Fox, also a Cadet with the Baseball Team, is wearing Michael's number in his honour. On May 10th, 2003, the corner of East 53rd Street and Avenue L in Brooklyn was co-named “FIREFIGHTER MICHAEL ROBERTS CORNER” in his honour.

Lawnmower Injuries

As most of you know, I'm now a little gimpier in my left leg.

I've been a member of many groups in my life, but Wednesday I became a member of a new group. People with lawnmower injuries. 80,000 people a year require hospital treatment because of lawnmowers. Yeah, I had no idea it was that high either.

I mow my grandparents' lawn every weekend cuz it's too damn hot for my grandpa to get out there. It's a good thing he has a riding mower.

So next time I'm mowing our lawn, I'll be out there looking like this:

A week from hell is finally over. 7 days until my vacation starts. Wahoo!!

Air conditioning was fixed. I left work about 1pm yesterday to go meet the maintenance dudes. They were gone within an hour. I didn't go back to work.

Finally got Taco's football pictures yesterday. So cute, I'll scan them this weekend & post away. Also got the team hoodie with their names & whatnot on it. I can't wait for it to get cooler so I can wear it.

On a related note, there was a photographer from the local paper out at their scrimmage on Saturday. The picture was in the paper of a few kids on their team & Taco is in the foreground with a cold, wet towel over his head. It was well over 100 degrees that evening. Cute picture. I'll scan it as well.

I think we're going to attend Reggaefest this weekend....still trying to decide whether to bring the dog or the boys...lmao. I think the boys are going to win out this time. We'll get to hang out w/ all our friends...like Kid & Daven. Should be a blast. I can hardly wait.

In addition to all the other shit that's going on around our homestead, our A/C went out last night.

Our house descended into the 4th level of hell as the thermostat continued to climb while set on full freezing blast. Manders is going to be taking half a day off from work today to run a metric shit-ton of errands, so if the maintenance people are coming over I have to take off from work....oh poor me.

My vacation starts a week from tomorrow. Come on September 1st!!!!

I wish Manders didn't have to work all weekend every weekend. She even took ole Boom with her. My boys have already gone home, they start school tomorrow. I guess I have the cats to keep me company.

Taco had another football scrimmage yesterday. The QB had to go home early cuz he was so dehydrated, poor kid. The scrimmage was at 6pm last night & it was still about 104 degrees outside. Those boys are troopers tho....worked their asses off until the end. For their reward Monday they are only practicing in shorts, shoulder pads & helmets.

When we got home Manders had dinner ready for us, but Taco didn't feel like eating, he was worn the fuck out. Just curled up in a ball in his chair at the dinner table. So he went to bed a little early & Tojo watched Cast Away with us. Good flick. Impressive how Tom Hanks pretty much acted by himself for most of the movie. Let me not downplay the contributions of Wilson the Volleyball tho.

We got some decent storms last night...needed the rain, but we didn't get near enough. Mother nature was kind enough to drop the temps a bit for us today. It's only 90 degrees today.

Well, I'm rambling...time to get back to cruising fark.com . Hope everyones' weekend has been a stellar one.

My poor sweet Tojo....busted his face open Friday night. 6 stitches in his handsome cheek. I got that call I dread getting, "Are you busy? Can you meet us at the emergency room?".

Tojo is the sweetest little boy in the world....he's had stitches twice in his life now. Once cuz he cut the tip of his finger in a closet door.

His brother is rough, tough, adventurous & fearless. He's never had stitches.

Last softball games of the summer season tonight. My leg still hasn't healed so I don't imagine I'll do any sliding tonight (headfirst only if I have to).

Yesterday's practice was the first time the kids got to practice tackling. Taco is learning fast.

He's a good sized kid, but one of the smaller ones on the team. This limits the positions on offense that he can play. Quarterback, running back, or receiver. He's been working out at running back. He had some licks laid on him yesterday, but hopped right up then said, "Well, I came here to get dirty!!". Another time he got laid out and the center ran up to him & picked him up by the back of his shoulder pads. Funny stuff.

I got involved too. Picked up a tackling dummy & played a little offensive line & defensive line. Good times, good times.

I had a little talk with the coach after practice & he asked me if I saw anything that they needed to work on. I said, "No, but when my boy is out here he's yours. Don't be afraid to lay on him hard & work him". I'm just here to watch & see what I can do with him at home. If he's not paying attention, call him on it. Be loud & scary, that's what football coaches are.

Taco's on a football team. Ex-wife got a call from the coach today. It's not the team I expected to pick him up. Oh well, such is life. I know he'll have a good time no matter what team he's on or how many kids he knows starting off.

It's football time baby!! Taco is stoked & ready to go. He went to a camp last weekend at Velocity Sports Performance. They have an amazing facility for football, basketball, & baseball along with many others.

They had an impressive staff working with the kids (age 6-13). Taco came out with knowledge & skills, no doubt. Staff included:

He was already asked to play on a specific team & we put that on his sign-up sheet, but it's mostly up to the other coaches if the want to honor that. I guess we'll see. But it's time. Practices can start next Monday & they're restricted to 3 1 1/2 hour practices a week.

Hung out with a buddy of mine who I used to spend a ton of time with a couple years ago. He moved back out to his hometown on the lake & got married. I talk to him all the time over email, but hadn't seen him maybe since his bachelor party, I don't remember.

Anyways, he was in town for a softball tournament & they had a couple players drop out & needed someone to sub. Of course I said yes against my better judgement.

First game was at 10am & let me tell you....it was hotter than hell. Prolly already 95 degrees.

We ended up playing 3 games in the 100 degree heat, I cramped, had to get fluids by IV, got sunburnt since I took off all my clothes (minus my shorts) in between games. I was drinking a ton of water & Gatorade, but it seemed like I was sweating it all out immediately.

We won the first game in extra innings, lost the 2nd game in a heartbreaker (against the team that won the last tournament), and lost our 3rd game in a blowout (against a team that they had beat before). I enjoyed a couple of beers then hopped in the car to head home & jump in the pool.

The pool felt great & I played with the boys, but I was utterly drained. The boys & I headed to the house so I could get cleaned up, change clothes & head to get some dinner before we met Manders for bowling with some of her co-workers. Now I really didn't want to go because, obviously, I was so drained. But I still did since I'm the best boyfriend ever.

I had a pretty good time. Bowled alright, the boys had a blast bowling, Manders had a good time. That's all that matters, I can postpone crashing until later.

Taco had his physical for football also on Saturday & he's fit as a fiddle. He hasn't shown any signs of his asthma for about a year. I think it's because the house that I used to live in with their mom was ravaged with mold. They don't live their anymore, thank God.

He starts football in just 2 weeks.

I wanted to post this yesterday when I found out, but I didn't want it to overshadow my anniversary message to Manders.

Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd had a profound influence on way more than just my musical tastes during my formative years. Sad to hear what happened to Syd as far as being replaced in the band as well as his struggles later in life.

Yesterday I talked, albeit briefly, about how ugly Italy plays soccer.

Well, in the 92nd minute of the game against Australia they did it again. Tied up at 0 & thought ya know, this might be about time for them to take a dive. Sure enough they dive in the penalty area, very slight contact. It looked like a good tackle to me with 10 seconds left in regular time, the ref needs to swallow his fucking whistle. Let them fight it out in overtime & penalty kicks if necessary.

But no, the ref called a foul & Italy got a penalty kick. Of course, Totti made it & the ref blew his whistle...end of game.

What a shitty way to lose a game......what a shitty way to win a game for that matter. I don't think I can say that the better team won that match.

Just a bit to talk about......sorry I haven't posted much lately, I'm sure nobody's disappointed.

Babies:

My oldest friend and his wife had their 3rd baby (quite unexpected and 7 1/2 years after their last) on Friday. I went to the hospital to visit & carry on a 10 year tradition when my boys & me have babies. I won't get into it.....let your imagination run wild. I got to hold the little scamp, he was very handsome & I enjoyed it beyond words....it's been so long since I held a newborn. Loved 'im.

Our doggie will never make any babies. He was neutered on Saturday.....sucker.

Family:

My aunt & uncle & 2 cousins are coming into town today & will be here until the day after 4th of July. I'm excited to see them....I haven't seen my Aunt & cousins for 2 years & haven't seen my uncle (step) since their wedding in '96 or so. My cousin is excited about watching us set off fireworks. I guess they don't have them in PA?

Good soccer games yesterday....amazing goal by David Beckham to give England a 1-0 win. Tons of yellow cards & ejections in the Portugal / Netherlands match. Entertaining!!! Another good match today: Australia / Italy. Going against my roots & cheering for the Aussies. Italy plays some ugly football. Damn divers.

Weather:

It's a beautiful day here....sunny, high of about 85 degrees (Normal is over 90). Way way too nice to be indoors. I need to play hooky, but can't since I did last week.

I love Queen & Freddie Mercury, but I watched the video for Bohemian Rhapsody today....holy moley!! Very very flamboyant.

After that I switched from left field to first base so I wouldn't have to throw as much. That couldn't have been a better move. I'm having a ton of fun & playing really well in all ways. I was so bored out of my mind that I wouldn't even try when hitting. I've been bombing the ball the last few weeks...very nice.

We went to a Drillers game again last night. This time Jason & his girls were there with us. The Drillers were losing when we left but oh well....it was fun anyway. Except for standing in the non-moving concession line for 20 minutes.

As some of you know, Manders begged me for a dog. After much prodding I said yes. It's a male Chocolate Lab about 9 months old. His name is Boomer, I doubt we'll change it. I'll post some pictures on Monday, Manders is picking him up tonight.

This weekend Taco is playing in an 8 team baseball tournament. First game tonight 6pm. Second game tomorrow 10am win or lose tonight. Double elimination....

2 more baseball games last night. Already had 2 on Sunday night. Another tonight. If you read Manders' blog you'll see that we're all actually going to WATCH one Thursday night. Season finally culminates next Tuesday with Taco's last game.

He was knocking the crap outta the ball last night. Ripped a good hard double.

Season finale of LOST is tonight. What's gonna happen? How far will Michael go to get Walt back? How skeptical of him will Jack be? What's up with the boat? Where's Desmond? What is Sayid going to do (cuz you know he's a stone-cold killer)? Who really are the Others? Enough questions...

Watched the season finale of 24 the other night.....if you haven't watched it yet, you should. President Wuss got his ass busted & Jack Bauer was Shanghaied. Big cliffhanger til next season, oh well.

I've been a bit absent lately.....work's keeping me busier than a one-legged Riverdancer. Did you hear Paul McCartney & his wife are divorcing? Yeah, looks like his wife may have the leg up on him in the proceedings. She seems to be hopping mad. I can't figure out what went wrong....I'm just stumped.

Nothing but baseball going on in my world. It'll be over in a week. Then football starts. Ah, the joys of fatherhood.

Both Taco & Tojo have rainout games scheduled for Sunday night. I'm also supposed to play softball at 7 & 8. I need to find a way to weasel out of my softball games. I'm burned out & probably going to retire at the end of this season. That is, unless someone propositions me to join a mens' team & they like to drink beer all night. Until then, I'm going to give my tired body a rest.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. My brother & his family are coming into town this weekend & I'm pretty excited to see him.

Horrible horrible injury for the Yankees last night.

Hideki Matsui, Yankees left fielder, broke his wrist sliding for a blooper off the bat of Mark Loretta, 2nd hitter of the game.

He didn't play half an inning, he did't get an at bat. Which means that his consecutive games played streak is over. Granted it was nothing like Cal Ripken's, but it was special because he takes so much pride in playing baseball to the fullest every night. Basically this guy has been playing baseball every night (except the off-season) since August 22, 1993.

Some numbers:

Consecutive games played for the Yankees: 518
Consecutive games played for the Yomuri Giants (Japan): 1250

Average numbers since joining the Yankees: .297 23 HR 110 RBI

Those are hard to replace...also considering that another of the Yankees outfielders, Gary Sheffield, is already on the disabled list. Johnny Damon also aggravated a previous foot injury last night. The Yankees are hurt & it's not looking good. 4 games so far versus the Red Sox & the Yankees have won only 1.

Just so happened that yesterday was a beautiful sunny day...the first in a while. According to the local weather doofuses it may have been the first of many we can look forward to in the next week.

Manders & I took the chance to bring Taco to the park down the street & play with some of his new birthday toys. The battery to the remote control H3 I forgot to charge died, so he just played on the playground for a bit.

I pushed him as high as he could take on the swings & then jumped off.....banging his forehead in the mulch. Apparently he loved it.

Afterwards we headed back to the house, Manders mowed the yard....well 3/4 of it. Taco played with his Star Wars Lego V-Wing Fighter that we built last Sunday.

He lost his first tooth the other day.....he's pretty happy he lost it considering how long I tugged on it last week to TRY to get it out. His mother pulled it after I was done. I guess it's like a pickle jar....I loosened it up, she finished the job. Anyways, the tooth right next to it is loose again & he thinks he's gonna make enough money off losing his chompers that he's going to buy me an 8-story house. Ah, to be a kid again.....

The Fish and Dumb Luck

Tojo, my youngest son, AKA The Fish plays t-ball with a bit of...ah, how do you say..ah yes, creativity. I've never once seen him take any sort of interest in fielding & throwing a ball.

I take that back. He did field a line drive to the belly one day.

But back to yesterday.....by the power of the Flying Spaghetti Monster he was moved over to 1st base during his game. You see, the boy playing 1st base had to make a #1 so he ran off the field. Tojo was the closest to 1st base so he got moved over there.

ALL OF A SUDDEN, he's interested in what's going on. Next batter....BAM, hits one between 1st & 2nd base, just mere steps away from The Fish. He actually moved toward it!!

Wait a minute, did I see that correctly? Hath mine own eyes deceived me?

Yes, he started towards the ball. In the process he managed to trip over his own feet and....GROUND! Is he out of the play yet? NO! He reaches with his bare hand & tries to catch the ball.

It was not to be, it rolled past his outstretched hand at the pace of a snail on valium.

Alas, the opportunity for redemption was brought forth by the next batter. The ball is hit down the line & Tojo is right there, glove on the ground. It rolls into his glove & as everyone is yelling for him to step on first base he stares at the ball in his glove. Still plenty of time to step on 1st & what does he do?

He throws the ball back to the pitcher.

Rained all day Friday, rained out both baseball games on Saturday. Sun finally came out on Sunday (softball games were already cancelled) until Sunday evening when it rained again.

Both Taco & Tojo had baseball games at the same time last night on different fields, but right next to each other. Since I coach Taco's team, I was only able to sneak away to see Tojo hit 2 times.

They're both so special in their own ways.....

Tojo is very courteous, well-behaved & listens when his coaches are speaking to him. He enjoys playing & gives his best even tho he's not the best player out there by far. He's still a bit small & a bit young, but this is his first year playing & I think he's doing fine. He's always overlooked by the coaches because he's the smallest & the most quiet. While all the other boys on the team are running around the dugout acting up, Tojo is sitting on the bench with his helmet on awaiting his turn to hit. I think the dugout coach lets the other kids hit earlier just to get them out of their hair. Tojo almost always hits last, but he loves that because in the league whomever hits last gets to run all the way around the bases with impunity. So he always feels like he hits a homerun & that makes him happy.

Taco is getting very good, I mean VERY GOOD at playing ball. He hit it to the fence 2 out of 3 times yesterday. He's also been playing pitcher (which in this league definitely gets the most action). He made 3 unassisted outs yesterday (one was overturned because of runner interference by the catcher) and should have had a couple more if the 1st baseman would have caught his throws....which were right on. I was more impressed with his baserunning last night...

Two examples of him really learning how to run the bases last night:

He hit a double & nobody was on 3rd in front of him. There was a ball hit to 3rd base & he realized very quickly that it wasn't a good idea to advance bases. Granted, his 3rd base coach was instructing him not to; but there's so much yelling going on that it's hard sometimes for 5 & 6 year olds to decipher whether it's a parent or their coach yelling at them.

The other example; he was on 3rd with the bases loaded & their pitcher was gobbling up every hit & running & stepping on home. Taco saw this, chucked it down the line, dropped & made a perfect slide into home. SAFE!!

He re-opened a scab from a previous slide when he did it and realized 'that's just baseball'.

Last night, I was taking the boys to Tojo's t-ball practice & there was storminess all around town so I was hesitant to even go there. It wasn't raining at our house, it wasn't raining where his practice is held so we decided to go.

He actually got about 20 minutes of practice in before the downpour started. As I was loading them into my car the tornado sirens started sounding (those of you not from OK, they do this at the slightest hint of cloud rotation). Taco started getting really nervous...putting his seatbelt on as fast as he could. lol it was cute.

We got home just as the storm rolled thru, no tornado, but there was a good bit of rotation just about a mile south of us & a pretty good wall cloud.

The wind was howling, but I didn't think it was that bad. We went out to dinner afterwards & saw some downed trees.....here's some pics.

Tojo is having his first practice this afternoon. His first game is a week from yesterday. Hardly enough time for a coach to memorize names of 11 kiddos. Hopefully they'll practice again because Tojo's mom called me this morning & he's throwing up.

Taco has been practicing for a while (I've also been practicing one-on-one with them). He's looking pretty good, I think he'd even be able to move up an age bracket. But his mom won't let me do it....oh well.

Pretty morning....

I went to bed about midnight last night & the snow had already started, but I didn't expect as much as we got. Manders woke me up & asked if I wanted to ride to work with her & I initially said yes, because I hate driving in the snow around the wackos here who can't even drive when it's dry.

Case in point:

Look at the street in that picture. Do you see any snow? Slush? Ice? The roads are pretty clear, just wet & MAYBE a little ice on bridges & overpasses. The picture above is from a 20 car pileup on one Tulsa highway this morning. About half a mile behind it there was another 6 car pileup. It forced the Highway Patrol to shut down a 6 mile stretch of interstate starting at downtown Tulsa. All over maybe an inch of snow.

THAT'S why I don't like to drive around here when it snows.

March is always one of my favorite months......the weather is changing, NCAA basketball gears up. Games all day Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. It's magical, it really is. Today I will do not much. Hopefully watch Oklahoma win this afternoon right here from my desk. Tomorrow I will have the radio tuned while I'm moving back & forth & the tv on while I'm settled in one place for a few.

I even talked my girlfriend into betting with me this year. Normally she has no interest in sports unless it involves a hillbilly driving a souped up Charger or a hillbilly riding a 1500lb bull. It'll be fun, I almost kinda hope she beats me so she'll be interested next year.

I will be gone tomorrow & Monday moving & playing around the new house. Everyone have a nice weekend & try not to enjoy it as much as me.

World Baseball Classic

It's a good concept, but fails because of the dynamic of most American baseball fans. A few reasons...follow me for a minute.

1)We cheer for our favorite team and the players on that team. We don't care if he's Japanese, Dominican, Cuban, Korean, etc.

2)It's happening in the middle of spring training. Players report to their teams, get in a couple weeks of workouts, hit the road for the games. Not as many people show up at the spring training games because all their favorite players are in Puerto Rico playing for Dominican Republic against Venezuela. I have planned a vacation around being in Tampa & watching a weeks worth of Yankees games at Legends Field. It was one of the best spring breaks I ever had. But now, would it be worth it to pay (Yankees spring training games aren't even close to as cheap as minor league games) to watch minor leaguers play? Some people might think not. Not a big deal to me, I like baseball.

3)Teams like Italy in the 'World Baseball Classic'.....I mean, check this out:

Mike Piazza, Frank Catalanotto, Dan Micelli...all major leaguers....all with Italian last names....

I mean, that's not really a national team. A-Rod undecided before the tournament on whether to play for the US team or Puerto Rico. The mofo was born & raised in the Bronx. Why would he play for Puerto Rico? I have no idea.

4)Ideally this tournament is geared towards getting people other than Americans to watch Major League Baseball, but the majority of the people watching are Americans. And the US team is not going to win. Clearly the majority of talented hitters & pitchers come out of D.R.....where you can play ball all year long comfortably. It may turn some Americans off.

I'd rather see it played in the middle of the season. I would have some radical changes in mind.....believe it. MLB wouldn't like it because they like to see record breaking performances, but single season/lifetime records would be hard to break under my plan.

Shorten the season by 20 games. Play the World Baseball Classic in the middle of the season, a 2 week long event culminating in the MLB All-Star game.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get back to making my picks in the NCAA tournament.

Weekend update

Well, nice weekend here in the TUL. If you might have read Manders' blog, you would have heard that, yes, we got the house we were trying to get.

We went to Sip for Sight again on Saturday night. Wine was good...food was so so. Was all worth it for the pretzels run under the chocolate fountain. Afterwards Manders dropped me off at a club for a cd release party...had a good time, got home late.

Slept pretty late on Sunday morning. Nothing to do really.

anyways folks, work has been pretty busy lately so like the last week I may be pretty scarce round these parts. Try not to have too much fun w/o me.

Grammy's last night

Watched the Grammy's & decided to tape LOST & watch it tonight.

Pretty entertaining show, best I've seen in a few years. I'm so glad they decided to give all the chincy, ticky tack awards before the show so they could concentrate on live performances (which were stellar last night).

Gorillaz--totally f'ing awesome, loved the animation & the perfomance with Madonna was boss. Definitely one of my 2 favorite performances of the night...more to come).

Coldplay wasn't too bad, I would have rather heard them do a different song.

Mary J. Blige is awesome.......she managed to perform 'One' better live than Bono did.

McCartney is getting old, but still does a hella live show. Dug the 'Helter Skelter'.

Mariah was awesome (as usual) & looked bombastic (as usual).
